Seattle is home to a number of renowned metal and jewelry artists, including Mary Lee Hu who taught metalworking at UW for over 25 years. Her incredible works are on display this spring at the Bellevue Arts Museum in an exhibit called Knitted, Knotted, Twisted & Twined: The Jewelry of Mary Lee Hu.
Her innovative work with metals came when she decided to use wire the way that textile weavers use thread, resulting in intricate and light pieces of gold and silver.
The exhibit runs from February 7 – June 17, 2012. If you are a metal smith or textile artist, she’ll be hosting a two-day wire working workshop on May 12-13 as well.
