Seattle lacks an NHL team, but we are just too darned close to Canada to not have some sort of hockey team to root for. Hockey fans and Canucks living in Seattle can get their hockey fix at a Seattle Thunderbirds game.
The Thunderbirds play in the Western Hockey League, a junior hockey league with teams from Western Canada, Washington and Oregon. These teams play some awesome, hard-hitting hockey, and unlike the NHL have some totally kick-ass team names. Who wouldn’t want to see the Thunderbirds play against teams like the Saskatoon Blades, the Moose Jaw Warriors or the Calgary Hitmen?
The WHL season runs from September through March, with games played at the ShoWare Center in Kent, about 18 miles south of Seattle. Get your Thunderbirds tickets here.
