The fall sports season brings out Seattleites to support their Seattle Seahawks, but also brings out the rabid college football fans who support the University of Washington Husky football team. The Huskies play at picturesque Husky Stadium, which is on the shores of Lake Washington. The more marine-minded fans actually arrive to the games via boat, which is a unique Seattle version of tailgating.
The purple and gold are part of the Pac-10 conference, playing west coast rivals like USC, UCLA and Oregon State. Not everyone in Seattle supports the Huskies, as there is large contingent of alumni from cross-state rival Washington State that live in the area. Both sets of alums relish the annual Apple Cup game when these rivals clash every year. Whether supporters of the Huskies or Cougs, one thing local football fans do seem to agree on, however, is their dislike for the Oregon Ducks!
The college football season runs from September-December of each year, though every fan hopes to see the Dawgs playing in that January bowl game. This year’s Husky schedule can be found here.
