Just a few blocks away from the infamous Fremont Troll rests yet another odd Seattle statue–that of Vladmir Lenin. You likely aren’t a fan of this guy, but at least you can appreciate the story of how the sculpture got here.
After the fall of communism, the statue was taken down from its place of honor is Czechoslovakia and put unceremoniously in a dump. A man from Issaquah happened to come across it and, rather than see such a lovely piece of art sold as scrap metal, offered to buy it. Forty-one thousand dollars and a steam ship ride later, Lenin arrived in America.
Believe it or not, the statue is for sale. Someone might soon decide that Lenin would make a nice lawn ornament and purchase him for their very own, but for the time being he watches over the “Center of the Universe” in Fremont.
