Dubbed the “largest stand-up paddle boarding event in the Pacific Northwest”, Round the Rock is a 13-mile race around Mercer Island on September 11, 2011.
While still a fairly new sport, there is already a group of pro racers who will be competing for $10,000 in prize money to see who can get around “the Rock” the quickest. (Mercer Island is a damn big rock, if you ask me!)
There are two course lengths this year, the 13-mile race around Mercer Island and a 3.5-mile race around Seward Park. They’ll also have a kids race for paddlers ages 7-14, plus a team relay. You should register ahead of time to secure your spot in the race, or just plan on being at Seward Park to watch and enjoy.
If you are new to stand-up paddle boarding, or want to hone your skills, they’ll also be hosting paddling clinics as part of the event.
