Ride the Ducks

There are many cities in this country that are lucky enough to be located near the water. Only the best of the best, however, can claim to have one extra-special thing: Amphibious Vehicle Tours. Better known as Ride the Ducks.Whoever dreamed up the idea of taking old military vessels, painting them with bright colors, supplying the occupants with quackers, and ferrying them around the city, was just plain brilliant. Any maybe a little crazy.

Here’s the scoop: You show up at their start location near the Space Needle and buy a ticket. Sometimes on busy summer days you have to wait for later times, so make sure you plan accordingly. The tour lasts 90 minutes and takes a nice route down to the waterfront, through Pioneer Square, and into Lake Union. Throughout the ride, the captain will entertain you with facts and bits of trivia about the city and pretty much make sure you have a good time. (It’s best to pack your sense of humor, because it’s basically required that you either a) sing loudly, b) wave crazily at pedestrians, c) flap your arms out the window, or d) dance in the aisles.)
