Sugar plum fairies unite! Another holiday season is upon us, and the Pacific Northwest Ballet will once again treat us to their annual tradition of the Nutcracker starting this week.
While Tchaikovsky’s music has been around for more than 100 years and E.T.A Hoffman’s story close to twice that, many don’t realize that the world’s most recognized production of the ballet originated right here in Seattle with PNB Founding Artistic Director Kent Stowell and children’s book author and illustrator Maurice Sendak. If the fantasy characters in the Nutcracker remind you of the kid’s book “Where the Wild Things Are,” that’s because both were illustrated by Sendak.
The show runs from November 25 – December 27, 2011 at McCaw Hall and tickets are available on their website.
