Many of Seattle’s original settlers were of Scandinavian descent, with many of them settling in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood. In the heart of Ballard is the Nordic Heritage Museum which is dedicated to exhibiting artwork, preserving Scandinavian history and providing cultural experiences.
The permanent exhibits at the museum highlight the Scandinavian migration to the US during the 19th & 20th centuries and focus on the logging and fishing industries where many of them were employed. The museum also has an impressive collection of audio and video recordings of Nordic folk and traditional music. Check out their website for upcoming special exhibits and events as well.
