Nothing says ‘fall’ like people dressed up in lederhosen and dirndls, raising mugs of beer, and then firing up their chainsaws. Which is how I know that the season has arrived; the Fremont Oktoberfest is in just a few days–September 24-26.
With its three beer gardens (featuring over 40 breweries), the Miss Buxom Pageant, and the Texas Chainsaw Pumpkin Carving competition, the festival features enough debauchery to last an entire year. But don’t worry, it’s not all so adults-only. The kids area also packs some family-friendly fun, with face painting, arts and crafts, pumpkin bowling, and root beer tasting. On Sunday is the Brew-ha-ha 5k race, where kids–and dogs–are welcome to join in the action.
All of the proceeds go to the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, which then donates money to local schools, art groups, and events, so go ahead and spend the whole weekend there without feeling an ounce of guilt. Prost!
